Senior Management/Consulting Over the past year, we have informally helped many small and mid-sized firms by introducing them to managers and executives with specific expertise in key areas from design/product development process automation, HR consulting and marketing analysis, to name a few. These consulting assignments have been helpful to companies seeking to upgrade their internal systems and lucrative to managers and executives seeking a fresh challenge. To our clients, we provide this as a basic courtesy and charge a small amount for overhead. To our consultants, this provides them an opportunity to contribute to a local company's prospects while still maintaining a job search or current job. These can be very project-specific assignments but can also provide a level of visibility that can help your career in the long-term. We've been asked to expand this business by a number of clients and will be reaching out to our general client base and letting them know about the in-house expertise we have available. If you have managerial and executive skills and want to be included as a potential consulting contact, please let me know personally so I can explain how we work. If you are a company seeking high-level consulting expertise to help a specific segment of your business, please let me know your plans. If we have contacts that I feel can help you, I will let you know ASAP.
Resume Review Over a 30 year recruiting career, I have reviewed and evaluated thousands of resumes for professionals and executives in the Delaware Valley. With the computerization and automation of the initial part of the employment process, your resume has assumed more and more importance as a key factor in getting a new job. An ineffective resume can be screened out early in the review process and can prevent your search from gaining traction. An effective resume is your personal business card. Imagine being at a trade show where you were the only vendor who didn’t have a business card. My guess is that you wouldn’t get many follow-up calls from potential clients, even if you had the best product. An ineffective resume, in today’s automated employment processes, may not even reach the decision maker for the job. It’s as if you don’t even have a business card.
Our perspective on resumes is practical. It’s not based on adding buzzwords. It’s not based on trickery or gimmicks. It’s based on our knowledge of a few key factors: 1)Each job and most companies have different entry points for resumes. For example, the initial screener of resumes for a VP Marketing position will be very different than for a Design Engineer job or an Account Manager job. The level of experience and expertise of the initial screener has a profound effect on whether your resume even gets to the decision maker’s desk. We understand the different resume review processes for different jobs and can help you tailor a resume to get past the initial screening. 2)We know how technology has changed the way people actually read your resume. It’s not a paper world anymore. Resumes are read and transmitted digitally. A lot of what was important in a resume 10 years ago is meaningless, even harmful, now. Let technology work for you. 3)Follow up calls after sending a resume are difficult in an automated employment world. How do you call an email address? We understand how and when a follow up call can help and how it can hurt. Our metrics can tell whether your resume is helping or hurting you, even without following up. We can help you tailor an effective method of follow-up that does not brand you as an annoyance. 4)ou may be particularly sensitive to issues like potential age-bias, a lack of a BS/BA degree, a change of fields or an employment gap in your background. Too many people resort to cute strategies or legerdemain in an attempt to hide perceived flaws in their backgrounds. A well-designed resume should not put you on the defensive the minute you are questioned about it. 5)It’s what is on the resume that is important, not how pretty it is. When push comes to shove, nothing speaks louder that your experience. Some “resume theorists” can actually hide your background instead of highlighting it.
A friend of mine who visited me in my office overheard me giving a candidate advice on her resume. He laughed when I hung up because his wife had just paid $700 to Ladders.com for very generic advice delivered over email. He laughed even harder when he found out I did this for free.
Which leads me to the start of this service. Here is what we will and won’t do: 1) We will not write your resume from scratch. Candidly, you should not want someone to write your resume from scratch. It’s your life and career. You should be able to put the first draft on paper. 2)e will look at the first draft and let you know whether we can help or not. If the resume is good and our improvements will be minor, we’ll tell you we can’t help. No charge. 3) If you want our help, we will talk to you on the phone and explain the changes we suggest and why we think they will be helpful. The changes will be your responsibility to make. 4)We will evaluate your whole process to date - how you are sending out resumes, are you getting interviews and other key parts of the process. Believe it or not, there are metrics I’ve developed, based on my experience, that can sometimes pinpoint a weakness in your strategy. We are process-driven here. Each job search should have it’s own process, depending on the level or type of job you are seeking.
The first step is to email a resume to me -jeffzinser@rightrecruiting.comwith a request for an evaluation. I can email you back letting you know if I can help. If so, we can schedule a time to talk about your resume and experiences so far in the market. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think it could help.
Our price for this is $200. I anticipate at least one phone call to discuss your resume and career and then a period of a day or so for us to review the resume and get back to you with suggestions. We will compare it to successful resumes of people in comparable situations and come back to with specific ideas and the reasons behind the suggestions. Please contact me directly if you think we can help you.
